SEER ("the app") is provided by the SEER team ("we", "our", "us"). This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is collected, how it is used, and the third parties it is shared with. SEER is an AI chat client: to generate replies, it must send the content of your conversations to an AI provider.
Information We Collect and How
Messages and conversation content — the text you type, the prior messages in a conversation, and any images or files you attach. Collected directly from your input when you send a message.
System instructions and tool definitions — the system prompt and tool configuration used to process a request. Generated by the app for each request.
API credentials — the API key(s) you enter (Ollama and, optionally, OpenAI). Collected when you enter them and stored on your device (in the system Keychain on the app; in your browser's local storage on the website). Credentials are sent only to their respective provider to authenticate your requests. If you connect the optional GitHub integration on the website, the GitHub token you provide is stored in your browser and sent only to api.github.com.
App settings and local chat history — stored locally on your device / in your browser.
Diagnostics — limited error/performance diagnostics may be logged locally to help diagnose problems. These are not transmitted to us.
Aggregate usage statistics (website) — the website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first, cookie-free analytics service that reports aggregate page views and visit metrics; it does not track you across sites or record your conversations. Our server also counts aggregate request events (event type, outcome, and model name only — never message content or API keys).
We do not use advertising trackers. On the website's cloud mode, our proxy relays your messages to the AI provider and does not store or log them; in local mode (chatting with an Ollama instance on your own machine), your messages are sent directly from your browser to your machine and never reach our servers at all. If the model uses the optional URL-fetch tool, the requested public URL is fetched through our server (the page content is returned to your browser and not stored).
How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
send your messages, attachments, and system instructions to your configured AI provider so it can generate a response;
authenticate your requests using the API key you provide;
save your preferences and conversation state on your device / in your browser;
diagnose crashes, errors, and performance issues locally.
Third-Party AI Providers (Data Sharing)
When you send a message, your message content, conversation history, attachments, and system instructions are transmitted to the AI provider you have configured:
Ollama Cloud — the default provider, reached at ollama.com, operated by Ollama. Used for the built-in models.
OpenAI — used only if you add an OpenAI API key, reached at api.openai.com, operated by OpenAI, for requests to OpenAI models.
A custom server — if you configure a custom server address, your data is sent to that server instead of the default.
Your own machine (website local mode) — if you choose "Use local Ollama", your messages go directly from your browser to the Ollama instance running on your own computer; no AI provider or server of ours receives them.
MCP servers you connect (website) — if you connect a remote MCP tool server, tool calls and results travel directly between your browser and that server (with any token you provide stored only in your browser); we never receive them. Tool results may be included in subsequent requests to your AI provider.
These providers process your data under their own privacy policies, which provide their own protections for your information:
We share your content with these providers only to fulfill your request to generate a response. Before any chat content is sent, the app presents an in-app disclosure identifying what data is sent and to which provider, and requires your explicit agreement.
On macOS, optional Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools you enable run locally and may, when you invoke them, access local resources or third-party services you configure (for example a code repository or search API). Tool results may be included in subsequent requests to the AI provider. You control which tools are enabled.
Data Storage and Retention
Local chat history, settings, and credentials remain on your device / in your browser unless you delete them or uninstall the app / clear your browser data.
Content sent to an AI provider is retained according to that provider's policy.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not use your content for advertising.
Security
We use reasonable technical safeguards, including encrypted network transport (HTTPS/TLS) for requests to providers and secure on-device storage (Keychain on the app) for credentials.
Your Choices
You can:
review the in-app data-sharing disclosure at any time in Settings → Privacy;
read this privacy policy from Settings → Privacy;
remove or replace your API credentials in Settings;
delete conversations from within the app;
uninstall the app, or clear your browser data, to remove local data.
If you do not agree to share data with an AI provider, the app cannot generate responses; you may decline and uninstall the app.
Children's Privacy
SEER is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted at this URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
